COVID-19
COVID-19 is a serious disease that can affect anyone of all ages. If you or anyone you know develops symptoms of COVID-19 please get tested. We all need to work together to ensure that those who are vulnerable during this time can remain safe and protected.
What is COVID-19?
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus which arose in December 2019. This disease is part of a large family of viruses that cause respiratory infections such as the common cold.

The first case of COVID-19 was reported on the 1st of December in 2019 and was later named SARS-CoV-2. It is believed to have originated in an animal and changed/mutated in a way so that it can cause illness in humans. This is not unusual as in the past various other infectious disease outbreaks have been traced to viruses originating in animals such as birds, pigs and bats, which all mutated to become dangerous to humans.

Research is continuing to be conducted to understand how and why the coronavirus evolved, as well as how it became a worldwide pandemic disease.
